Forcing a computer to shutdown, holding down the power button until the computer shuts off, can corrupt data causing slow performance, blue screen, etc.

Please keep in mind that if you have a computer with a warranty, all hardware on that laptop will be repaired or replaced by Dell.  Even if it's just a single key missing from the keyboard, call Dell and have them replace the keyboard.
